Ligue 1: The nice profit of the L’Equipe group thanks to its agreement with Amazon
An agreement that is worth gold. After Mediapro’s fiasco with Ligue 1, Amazon arrived as a savior in the off-season in 2021 to recover the TV shows of the first football division until 2024. Since then, on its Amazon Prime Video platform, the American giant has been broadcasting 80 % of Ligue 1 and all of Ligue 2. Amazon then entered into an agreement with the L’Equipe group for the broadcasting of Ligue 2 matches on channel 21.

More than a million euros in profit!
In addition to this broadcasting agreement, the juggernaut of Jeff Bezos has also chosen a company from the L’Equipe group, the company 21 Production, to produce the multiplex matches. A nice agreement allowing the subsidiary to receive 5.86 million turnover and a profit of 1.26 million euros over the first five months of the 2021/2022 season, according to information from “the informed“. Thus, mechanically, over a full year, the company should collect nearly 12 million euros in revenue and around 2.5 million euros in profits.
For each football match, according to the news site, 21 Production sends a team of 5 people to commentate and animate the matches. On site, the company offers pre- and post-match broadcasts, with interviews and half-time entertainment. All with famous consultants, like Thierry Henry.
Contacted by “L’informé”, the group L’Equipe did not wish “detail the financial results of these different activities or subsidiaries“, but recalled that, all entities combined, it “was a beneficiary of more than 4 million euros in 2021“.”The 2022 financial statement will be communicated at the amount of the publication of the accounts next spring“, underlined the sports group.
