Following the appeal launched by the departmental federation of farmers’ unions in Haute-Garonne (FDSEA 31), the farmers meet on the morning of this Friday, January 6, from 9:30 a.m., in front of the gates of the administrative city From toulouse. The gatherings will start an hour earlier in the towns of Capens, Villefranche-de-Lauraguais, Pinsaguel and Aussonne, to the south-east, south-west and north-west of the Pink City. Then the convoys, made up of cars, trucks and other agricultural machinery, will take the road towards Toulouse. The FDSEA 31 did not reveal the exact route of these trips.
Why are farmers demonstrating in Toulouse?
This demonstration takes place to protest against a recent decision of the regional directorate for food, agriculture and forestry (DRAAF) of Occitanie, concerning the new mechanisms of the common Agricultural Policy (PAC). In concrete terms, the agri-environmental and climate measures of the CAP aim to offer support to farmers who engage in a transition to economically and ecologically efficient practicesdepending on the media France Blue. This support takes the form of a contract signed between the State and the operator. Through the latter, the professional is guided in his way of working by the State services, but must at the same time submit to obligations, limits and prohibitions, in exchange for financial compensation.
Following the entry into force on 1 January of these measures, the departmental federation of farmers’ unions in Haute-Garonne accuses the director of the DRAAF of having modified, which more is without prior consultation of the operatorsthe zoning of the Intermediate Zone, which thus excludes “many cereal-growing areas in Occitania, and, as a result, many farmers which cannot be accompanied by CAP measures. “This observation goes against the commitments made by the ministry for the development of the cereal sector”, conclude the members of the FDSEA 31.
