BVG lowers subway temperatures to 15 degrees
On some subway lines, it is getting colder for the passengers in the trains: the BVG turns down the heating – by a full four degrees.
In order to save electricity and energy, the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) records the temperatures in some subway trains at 15 degrees. As several media write, this affects the lines U6, U7, U8 and U9 – these are the routes that run exclusively underground. The “Berliner Zeitung” reported first.
So far, the temperature in all subways has been 19 degrees. Since it needs at least 15 degrees in the passenger compartments with the doors and windows closed in winter, the company turns down the heating on the affected lines by four degrees. When making the change, the BVG is based on the specifications of the State of Berlin in the local transport plan.
BVG implements further energy-saving measures
The other subway lines are partly above ground. They will continue to be heated as before, as otherwise it could get too cold due to the open doors.
As the RBB reports, the BVG is also implementing other energy-saving measures. Accordingly, there should no longer be hot water in the company’s sinks. In addition, the corridors and stairwells of the buildings are less illuminated, and the logo on the facades is no longer illuminated at all.
