Toulouse: this pizzeria launches a reusable pizza box
Disposable tableware is now prohibited in fast food outlets. In this wake, the Bonici franchise is launching a reusable pizza box.
This is a novelty since January 1, fast food brands must get rid of disposable dishes, in application of the AGEC law which aims to fight against waste. The Pizza Bonici franchise, created in 2008 in the Toulouse region, wants to take this approach even further. Bonici franchisees are the first to offer reusable pizza boxes. They will continue to offer cardboard ones, which represent for them the equivalent of a semi-trailer of waste each month.
“Beyond the regulatory aspect which is a step in the right direction, this is a major societal challenge for our brand, and to change the model. Much more than an emblematic measure of this reusable box, it is a strong commitment for us who work daily to reduce waste and our carbon footprint, by buying raw products as much as possible, mainly from France or Italy. , comments Jérôme Bonici, and founding president of the franchise.

He adds: “You should know that the lifespan of a cardboard pizza box is only 20 minutes, and that it is not recyclable because of food residues! The French consume more than 1.1 billion pizzas, half of which are for delivery or takeaway. »
“In 12 years of activity, only one customer has come with his container”
The recyclable pizza box, the Bonici box, is molded from the highest quality polypropylene, “making it very robust, scratch and heat resistant, and 100% recyclable”. Its round shape matches the diameter of the pizza to avoid wasting material. It can be easily transported, cleaned in the dishwasher. Vents on the edge of the box allow steam to escape. “The pizza stays crispy, moist and delicious,” says Bonici.

The La Bonici box is offered at 9 euros. According to the franchise, from just 15 uses, it will cost less than an ordinary cardboard box. Franchisees hope that this ecological alternative will appeal to their customers.
“In 12 years of activity, I have had only one customer who came to pick up his pizza with his own container! The Bonici box can also be used as a doggy bag and thus avoid food waste and waste. The savings made on the purchase of cardboard boxes make it possible to avoid price increases, and to encourage them thanks to a dedicated loyalty program”, explains Yannick Morin, franchisee at Balma.
