Norway donates artillery shells to Ukraine
The artillery shells are taken from the Defense’s warehouses and are equipment that Ukraine has requested, writes NRK.
– We have a long list that Ukraine wants. Primarily, it is air defenses, ammunition for their air defenses, artillery shells and long-range weapons that can cause losses to the Russian attack forces, says defense chief Eirik Kristoffersen.
The artillery shells can be used in several types of artillery fire, including the M109, which Norway has donated in the past. The consequence for national preparedness has been assessed, the government states in a press release.
– It is important for Europe’s and Norway’s security that Ukraine succeeds in standing up to Russia’s attack. Ukraine needs international support in the form of military equipment and training of its own forces. Norway has contributed through 2022 and will continue to contribute to support Ukraine in 2023, says Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp).
He says that Ukraine needs support quickly and that Norway will therefore continue to assess what we can do from the structure of the Norwegian Armed Forces.
– At the same time, we are investigating what we can acquire directly from the producer to donate further, says Gram.
