Bilbao’s most typical sweet, Las Carolinas, will star in the ONCE coupon on Sunday, January 8, belonging to the series ‘¿Un dulce?’.
With this initiative, ONCE seeks to disseminate some of the most sweets and representatives of the rich Spanish gastronomy. In this way, 5.5 million and a half coupons will carry the image of this Bilbao gastronomic delight next Sunday.
The initiative aims to spread some of the most representative sweet recipes in the country
The coupon was presented by Juan Carlos Andueza, territorial delegate of ONCE in the Basque Country, and José Manuel Angulo, President of the Bizkaia Pastry Guild. They are accompanied by José Ramírez, Jone Marcaida and Eduardo Bizkarra, members of the Board of Directors, and Elena Espeso, Manager.
Las Carolinas are one of the most exquisite and traditional sweets in Bilbao. About its origin, legend has it that it was born more than a century ago, when a pastry chef from Bilbao wanted to surprise her daughter on her birthday by making a dessert special for her.
The main ingredient was MeringueLittle Carolina’s favorite candy. In addition, it must be attractive to the eye and not very difficult to like. This is how a sweet meringue foam is born, on a fine puff pastry, filled with pastry cream. To finish it off, it stands out for its egg sheet shape on one side and Chocolat for the other.

The series ‘A sweet?’ It will be made up of 50 coupons, one for each Spanish province, belonging to the Sunday draws.
It is developed in collaboration with the Spanish Confederation of Artisan Pastry Entrepreneurs (Ceeap), whose objectives include defending and representing the needs of artisan pastry.
