Sweden and the Czech Republic meet again at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships on Wednesday, this time in the semifinals. The Swedes handed the Czechs their only loss in Group A play on Thursday with a 3-2 overtime win. The Czech Republic is number 1 from Group A, while Sweden finished third before knocking out Finland in Monday’s quarter-finals. Jiri Kulich and Gabriel Szturc are the top scorers for the Czechs with five apiece while defenseman Stanislav Svozil leads the squad with eight points (one goal and seven assists). Ludvig Jansson has three goals for Sweden and leads the team with seven points together with Filip Bystedt (two goals, five assists).

Sweden rallied late in the third period and beat Finland 3-2. Leo Carlsson tied the game at 16:33 of the period and with 1:05 left in regulation, Victor Stjernborg scored the game winner. Carl Lindbom stopped 33 shots for the Swedes in the win.
The Czech Republic had a much easier time in their quarter-final, beating Switzerland 9-1. Kulich scored twice and recorded four points and Szturc and Marcel Marcel also lit the lamp twice.
Sweden played its quarter-final in Moncton and made the 162-mile trip to Halifax on Tuesday for the semi-finals.
