Holiday in Austria in danger? Expert with worrying prognosis
“Finally winter and finally vacation in Austria”, that’s what many winter sports enthusiasts and snow lovers will think. Because from December they can finally step on the gas again on the slopes in the neighboring country. Or maybe not?
For January 2023, weather expert Dominik Jung unfortunately gives a bitter forecast for all ski fans who wanted to spend their holidays in Austria.
Holidays in Austria: an expert with a worrying prognosis
The climate has changed significantly around the world. This is currently the case in Germany in particular. The end of December was already extremely mild, but that won’t change much in January. There is no trace of snow and winter. The situation is similar in Austria, also in the ski areas.
The mild temperatures do not bode well for ski tourism. And the weather expert Dominik Jung now has a very bitter forecast.
“In the next few days, the temperatures will be seven degrees from 3,000 meters above sea level. It stays that way even at higher altitudes. Everything is green down in the valley, only the ski slope is white,” the meteorologist explains to this editorial team. Snow will be scarce in the first half of January.
Ski slopes in Austria dry out quickly
But the managing director of the weather service “Q.met” gives ski fans a little bit of hope. “Winter isn’t over yet, so there’s definitely more to come.”
On Twitter, a user showed an impressive and at the same time frightening picture of the current situation in a ski area in Austria. The photo shows a ski slope that quickly dried up. You suspect that such images will accumulate in Austria. “Preparing slopes at 16 degrees is becoming more and more complex and expensive,” she writes.
