Repairs this year will complicate traffic in Jana Želivského Street in Prague
According to information from the city district, the section from Basilejské náměstí towards Ohrad will be closed from mid-January to June, after which the street will be impassable in the opposite direction from Koněvova to Olšanská street. Work on the gas pipeline limited traffic in the street at the beginning of last year, the city is also planning a complete reconstruction.
Due to repairs, the street will be impassable in one direction for most of the year and drivers will be forced to use detours. “It’s drastic, but we have to respect it,” Deputy Mayor of Prague 3 Ondřej Rut (Greens) told ČTK today. He added that according to the Prague Water Company and the Prague Gas Company, the repairs can no longer be postponed due to the poor condition of the infrastructure and part of the accidents. After this year’s repairs, the engineering child in the street should be completely repaired, added Rut.
“At the same time, the magistrate has promised us that he will not allow any further traffic restrictions on the main streets in the territory of Prague 3 this year,” the deputy mayor said. The municipality also postponed the plan for the next part of the reconstruction of Koněvova Street until next year.
Last year, from the position of deputy mayor of Prague 3, which he defended, Rut criticized the municipality for, in his opinion, insufficient coordination of the February works in Jan Želivský Street. This year, according to him, the district received the schedule earlier and the coordination on the part of the city was better.
The city is preparing according to the overall reconstruction of the street, the transport company and the replacement of the tram tracks are necessary. The Technical Administration of Communications (TSK) has started the preparation of the project, but Rut does not expect the actual work to start before five years from now. According to him, the risk is that the current reconstruction of the networks may not be in accordance with the upcoming modifications and it will not be possible, for example, to plant rows of trees in the places under consideration. The deputy mayor added that TSK was tasked by the city management to focus on this.
