Recycling center: Mattsee and Seeham cooperate
Business
A new recycling center has been in operation in Mattsee (Flachgau) since the beginning of December. The recycling center is a prime example of regional cooperation – the communities of Mattsee and Seeham use it together.
The old recycling centers in Mattsee and Seeham were showing their age and were clearly too small. The cross-municipal waste collection center was built for 2.5 million euros and funded by the municipal equalization fund. With a photovoltaic system on the roof of the building, the two Flachgau municipalities generate green electricity – currently more electricity than needed is fed into the general grid, says Seeham Mayor Peter Altendorfer (ÖVP).
Main objective: to save on operating costs
The main aim of the joint project is to save costs: With the new recycling center we can save costs again and finally meet all modern foodstuffs. It is now large enough that there is enough space for disposal and that all legal requirements are met, for example how waste and, above all, problematic materials are to be stored,” says Mayor of Mattsee Michael Schwarzmayr (SPÖ).
Bürmoos and St. Georgen also share a recycling yard
The municipalities of Bürmoos and St. Georgen near Salzburg have been building on the model of a shared recycling center for four years now. The St. Georgen Mayor Franz Gangl (ÖVP) says it is an ideal solution for both communities. But it is also a process in which you never stop learning. For example, plastic separation was used in the waste collection center. But that taught them otherwise – the house collection with the yellow sack has proven to be more efficient, at least in the two communities.
