D. Américo Aguiar guarantees “total transparency” on the accounts of the World Youth Day – Society
The president of the World Youth Day Foundation, which takes place from August 1 to 6 in Lisbon, guarantees “total transparency” with regard to the organisation’s accounts.
For now, D. Américo Aguiar does not give numbers: “When we know, we will say”, he guarantees, informing that the Foundation’s budget for this year is being finalized.
The costs of the Journey are also borne by the Government and by the Lisbon and Loures city councils. For now, it is known that on the Government’s side, the latest estimate pointed to 36.5 million euros; Lisbon can spend up to 35 million, and Loures expects to invest around 9 million.
The person responsible for organizing the Journey said, in an interview with Renascença and Agência Ecclesia, that there are already around 300,000 subscribers. “If the summer of 2023 is a summer without economic problems, the Journey of Lisbon will be one of the busiest ever”, says D. Américo Aguiar. “Now, if the war, unfortunately, continues and becomes complicated and the economy has very negative developments, it is clear that Jornada will readapt to these scenarios”, he points out. “The registration history is like a roller coaster: on December 31 there was even a peak, which then stopped. At Easter, there is a new peak, which then stops, and in the final stretch of summer they attack again”, he highlighted. The Day will be chaired by Pope Francis.
