Attendance at SOS Médecins and calls to 15 up sharply in Toulouse
It’s always a hassle to find an appointment with the doctor in Toulouse. Consequence of the unprecedented triple epidemic ongoing (influenza, covid and bronchiolitis) and liberal doctors strike which entered its 2nd week (after a first movement on December 1 and 2). The DG of Health Insurance revealed Monday at 10% the decline in activity of general practitioners last week, the collective affirming that it avoided 70%.
This carried by the young collective “doctors movement for tomorrow” has as its central demand the increase in the price of the consultation to 50 euros for a “shock of attractiveness” towards a city medicine crushed by administrative tasks to the detriment of medical time and which no longer attracts young people.
Business up by 20 to 40%
At SOS Doctors in Toulouse which has two sites on the Allées Jean Jaurès and Route d’Espagne, attendance an exploded during the holidays, so does the number of calls to 15. And it’s not over. the Doctor Cyrille Chaugne is president of SOS Médecins in Toulouse and a member of the union of liberal doctors.
“We had to increase our number of patients by 20% per 24 hours, and by 20 to 40% of calls on the 15th depending on the day. Knowing that there is a double phenomenon with the triple flu epidemic not yet at its peak , covid with a past peak but still significant covid and bronchiolitis still present. For SOS Médecins, it was unthinkable to go on strike at that time and get more people to the emergency room when we know under what conditions our colleagues are working.”
A busy first week of January
The collective “Doctors for tomorrow” plans a national demonstration Thursday afternoon in Parisbetween the Pantheon and the Ministry of Health, where he should be received by the Minister of Health François Braun.
The first week of 2023 is marked by another mobilization, that of biologists liberal doctors. To contest the amount of savings requested of them, they have been called upon since Monday to no longer report the results of the Covid tests allowing the evolution of the epidemic to be monitored.
The week should end with wishes to President Emmanuel Macron’s health actorswho will try to appease a sector in turmoil.
