About 80 percent of the 162 cities with at least a thirty-year series of measurements recorded New Year’s records today. Štefan Handžák from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) told ČTK. According to the forecast, cooling will come from Monday.

In addition to the lee of the Jeseníky Mountains, it was also warm again in southern Bohemia at the beginning of the year. In České Budějovice – Rožnov the thermometer showed 19.4 degrees Celsius, in Třebon 18.9 degrees. In the Czech Republic, extremely warm air, which flows here from the northwest of Africa, has a great influence, the ČHMÚ stated, when they also fell on the most long-term meters in the locality.
This year’s turn of the year has record temperatures in a number of places, similar to a year ago. Just like on New Year’s Eve, today the thermometer showed more than 18 degrees Celsius also, for example, in Neumetele in Berounska, it stopped at the value 18.7 degrees.
