Team Canada needed to win and they certainly did, yesterday against Sweden
Commentators called previous wins by Team Canada at the 2023 World Junior Championships “a joke” when they beat Germany 11-2 and Austria 11-0. So when they were to face Sweden, they were told to be prepared to really play. Well the local player Jack Matier and Canada made it easy for Sweden too.
Last night’s match can be said in a word as a “cool” win because Team Canada was relentless and didn’t give Sweden an inch, even when it was shorthanded.
Connor Bedard had four assists to tie for the most points ever by a Canadian at a single tournament and to tie for the most points ever by a Canadian at the World Juniors.
He is also tied for the most goals ever by a Canadian in the World Juniors. And there are still more matches to play for him in this tournament.
Canada beat Sweden 5-1.
Canada now plays Slovakia tomorrow night.
