You don’t want to pass a new year’s eve plan-plan, where the discussions purr and where the guests dine with a smile. On a selection for you a few sentences to throw very Rouen topics of conversation which could easily turn your evening into a heated debate!
“The ZFE in Rouen personally, I find it good”
If you drop this sentence in the evening, you may well attract some dark looks.
The environmental measure aimed at excluded the most polluting vehicles from 13 municipalities of the metropolis of Rouen get a lot of rejection. It’s not easy to join if you can’t afford to change vehicles or take public transport daily.
The tension is likely to be all the stronger as the EPZ serums actually applied from March 2023after a period of pedagogy without verbalization.
What you are probably hearing: “Tired of these boho-ecological Khmer Verts! »
“I don’t understand why they canceled the 24-hour motorboat race”
The municipality’s announcement in the middle of the summer of no longer accept the organization of the 24 hours motorboating divided the Rouennais into two camps.
On the one hand, those who adhere to the town hall’s ecological arguments, who see in this race an event from another time, polluting unnecessarily. On the other, those who already regret a popular and free event in the city. And you, which side are you on?
What you are probably hearing: “And the Armada, doesn’t it pollute maybe?” »
“But it’s not a metro, the metro! »
This subject can be brought out every year and even at every meal. Non-Rouennais do not understand why are we talking about a metro here. “Your thing is a tram!” »
“Obviously that it’s a metro, since it goes underground ! will certainly carry the Rouennais full of certainties.
Yet it is the non-Rouennais who has a reason. The name “metro” is a local abuse of language to qualify what is a tramway like any other. We have already settled this debate a few years ago, but nothing prevents you from putting it back on the table.
What you are probably hearing: “Bah, can we just say it’s a metram?” »
“The frescoes on rue Jeanne-d’Arc, aren’t they rather pretty? »
The frescoes of the artist Inkoj who now decorate rue Jeanne-d’Arc are also controversial.
First, there are those who will comment on its artistic quality. Corn art is subjectivetastes and colors are an appreciation that belongs to everyone.
More important, however, is the question of road safety. The frescoes indeed serve giant pedestrian crossings supposed to calm the circulation. But this does not always seem obvious to motorists who use the artery.
What is quite obvious to them, however, is the cycle lane materialized by lovely concrete studs all along the street.
What you are probably hearing: “And how much does it cost again?” » We answered it here.
“Finally, we should perhaps have moved the statue of Napoleon”
You recommend for sure the “wokism” alert with this sentence dropped between the cheese and the dessert.
Retired in 2020 for restorationthe statue of Napoleon historically installed in front of the town hall of Rouen has fueled the controversy until reinstalled in July 2022. The mayor Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol had indeed put forward the idea of perhaps moving it and had put this decision in the hands of Rouennais who voted mainly for his return.
But that was all it took to fuel an altogether interesting debate on the traces of our history in the public space.
What you are probably hearing: “Well all the same, it’s true that it has been well restored. »
So, ready to have a good New Year’s Eve by putting your feet in the dish?
