Toulouse. Already private sales but… not so private!
As less and less private sales operations proliferate, the president of the Toulouse traders’ federation is calling for earlier winter sales.
The winter sales will begin on January 11, but Toulouse shops are already increasing private sales campaigns. Private sales that only bear the name. These discount times are no longer as selective as they used to be, “it doesn’t mean anything anymore”. You can benefit from it without ever having set foot in the store before,” remarks Phillippe Léon, president of the federation of merchant associations in Toulouse. “Zara” offers up to – 40% on Boxing Day without conditions. While “Serge Blanco” via its so-called “privilege” offers offers -30% on a selection of products on the sole condition of creating an account. Thus, old and new customers alike are “privileged”.
According to the retailer representative, these periods are to the advantage of customers and the retailer’s interest lies in “making room for the spring-summer collection by selling at cost price products which have not been delivered during the year.
As for the sales, the president notes what he considers to be an inconsistency, “The Americans have Black Friday, the English have Boxing Day, people are waiting for the discount after the holidays, do it, let’s not wait 3 weeks”. The preview of the January clearance sale nevertheless remains more interesting in terms of choice and ensures greater availability of sizes.
