The Prague Zoo in Troja received 268 unsold Christmas trees for selected animal species. According to the director of the Prague Zoo, Miroslav Bobek, these are mainly hemlocks, and more trees are still to come. For animals, they diversify the menu. For most of them, however, according to breeders, they serve mainly as toys.
On Thursday, kea nesting parrots, bear-like devils, European bison and Indian elephants enjoyed the Christmas trees.
In the following days, visitors can attend a special guided feeding of the trees, on Friday, Saturday and New Year’s Sunday.
Such feeding can be seen, for example, on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the honeyeaters, on Saturday with the giraffes in the African House from 11.30 a.m. or in the Dja reserve with the gorillas at 12.00 p.m. On Sundays, for example, camels receive trees at 11:30 a.m. or elephants at 1:30 p.m.
Unsold saplings end up in Troja every year. They especially make elephants happy.
