ten days ago, the Ghetto Blaster bid farewell to Rouen. A page turns but another opens since we already know what will replace the establishment on rue Percière. It will be L’Élixir, an upscale cocktail bar which wants to be “open to all”, according to its manager Camille Mannu.
A new cocktail bar in Rouen
At 23, he already has a solid background behind him in the hospitality industry. Camille Mannu didn’t really like his studies in business school, so he left to live in Canada. “There, I started working in the bar of a luxury hotel,” he says.
It was there that he cut his teeth with a “very good mentor” who taught him all the basics : cutting the fruits, the history of the thousands of liqueurs offered at the hotel, composition and realization of all the classic cocktails then the techniques. “I was a bartender then a bar manager. I started making my signature cocktails and got spotted. »
The rise is dazzling for the young man who quickly takes on responsibilities in the chain of fifteen luxury hotels, to the point of taking care of the mixology for the whole group. “My bar was even voted the best bar in Toronto”he rejoices.
The ambition to be one of the best bars in the world
Camille Mannu must however return to Rouen because of the Covid pandemic. He takes over the management of the restaurant Kiss then work at the hotel Hedge Green. But in his head ripens the idea of opening a cocktail bar which, according to him, is lacking in Rouen. A place “with a cozy and warm atmosphere, where customers discover things, take them into my world”, in short, “take care of the customer to make him live an experience” with a strong but “unpretentious” ambition. , he assures.
I want to be in the top 100 best bars in the world.
The opportunity to take over the premises of the Ghetto Blaster was therefore ideal. At L’Élixir, he intends to offer ” cocktail creationsa hundred spiritsof the classic cocktails on demand, but also good wines and good draft beers. The idea is that everyone can find their way around.
Quality, local and seasonal products
But obviously, the cocktail will be at the heart of the project. “I want to make cocktails that you rarely, if ever, see in France. We play on all the senses, with playful and sometimes spectacular cocktails. “It will take around 14 euro for cocktails.
“The map will be seasonal, with products in short circuit”, completes his company Joséphine Lelong which provides the service part. This leitmotif also applies for the platters (charcuterie, cheese, terrines) that will be offered.
All in an atmosphere “refined, warm, modern” based on green, gold and terracotta. This will require some work to start in January 2023. The opening is therefore expected for the beginning of the year.
