Population. Very dynamic, Toulouse is on the heels of Lyon
Haute-Garonne now has 1.4 million inhabitants, according to data released by INSEE. Very dynamic, Toulouse has a population of 498,000 people and is on the heels of Lyon.
As of January 1, 2020, 1,415,757 people lived in Haute-Garonneaccording to data released by INSEE Thursday, December 29. Thus, the most populated department of Occitanie is the twelfth of France, in number of inhabitants. It rises between Seine-et-Marne and Val-de-Marne.
In Haute-Garonne, the population is growing rapidly between 2014 and 2020, with growth of +1.2% per year, i.e. 16,348 inhabitants. This is due to natural surpluses, ie there are more births than deaths, and migration, which corresponds to more arrivals than departures. They are respectively +0.5% and +0.7% per year.
” Demography is particularly dynamic to the west of Toulouse, to the Gers. It also remains strong between Toulouse and Montauban, and in southern Toulouse along the main axes (A61, A64 and A66). The population is more stable in the south-west of the department, around Saint-Gaudens. It is declining in Cazères and in the Luchon valley,” explains INSEE.
