The driver first ignored a red light and then ignored the police. Apparently he was under the influence of drugs and didn’t have a driver’s license.

A police chase in Moabit ended in an accident on Wednesday evening. As the police reported, around 7:20 p.m., the police officers were approached by a driver who was driving his vehicle on Stromstraße in the direction of Lessingstraße and ignored a red traffic light at the intersection with Alt-Moabit street.
The police officers then asked the driver to stop with stop signals. He didn’t react and continued his journey. The police then switched on the blue lights and pursued the man, who was traveling at significantly excessive speed.
Driver did not have a driver’s license
The chase ended in Ottopark, where the man crashed his vehicle into a tree and then fled on foot until the emergency services were able to arrest him in Turmstrasse. The 42-year-old was taken into police custody, where he was treated for identification and blood was drawn from him because he had stated that he had consumed narcotics before driving.
The man, who was in Germany illegally and could not produce a driver’s license, was then handed over to the criminal police. The car, which had the license plate number of another vehicle on it, was confiscated. The investigations – including for driving under the influence of narcotics, for a prohibited motor vehicle race, for hit-and-run and forgery of documents – are ongoing.
