President of the Confederation of Tourism of Portugal says that “TAP needs peace”

The president of the Confederation of Tourism of Portugal defended this Wednesday the need for “peace” at TAP so that the airline can work, also considering that the celebrated for 2023 is high.
The president of CTP, Francisco Calheiros, spoke to journalists at the end of a meeting with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who previously received a reception from UGT, at Palácio de Belém, in Lisbon.
Specifying that TAP was left out of the topics heard at the meeting with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, questioned about the controversy with the former Secretary of State for the Treasury Alexandra Reis and even though he declined to make political comments, Francisco Calheiros considered that these “are issues that should not pinch TAP, but are issues that are relevant”.
“TAP needs peace to be able to work”, he said, adding that the airline “is very important for Portuguese tourism”.

“We came to address the issue of the airport, which is a subject that the President of the Republic is permanently concerned about and that we are very concerned about. It is at this moment, perhaps, the main problem we have, ”he said.
On the agenda of the audience was also the balance of tourism numbers this year, but also the perspectives for 2023.
“For 2023 we only have one certainty, which is vibrant. […] As there are last-minute bookings, there is no doubt that it is very difficult to have a forecast of what the year 2023 could be like.
In addition to Francisco Calheiros, the vice-president of the board of directors of CTP, Carlos Moura (president of AHRESP – Associação da Hotelaria, Restauração e Similares de Portugal), and member of the board of directors of CTP Pedro Costa Ferreira (from APAVT – Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies).
On Thursday, the President of the Republic also receives the Confederation of Commerce and Services of Portugal (CCP), the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers – National Intersindical (CGTP-IN) and the Confederation of Business of Portugal (CIP).
