“My teammates call me Kamil!”
To honor the systematic presence of many Monegasque supporters in outdoor parks, asmonaco.com is continuing its series dedicated to supporters of the Red and Whites. For this 7th part of the 2022-2023 season, let’s meet Cyril, a Burgundian fan of AS Monaco.
Originally from Saint-Vallier in Saône-et-Loire, Cyril Joseph, 26, fell in love with AS Monaco at an early age. Meeting with this absolute fan of Shabani Nondacurrently in Slovenia as part of his European cycling tour.
Hello Cyril. To start, comment and where did you get this passion for the Club?
It’s a very simple story, I was seven years old, I was chatting with a friend, and he asked me what my favorite club was. At that moment, I realized that I didn’t have any. He then asked me what my favorite color was, and I answered him red. That’s how he told me about AS Monaco. In addition it was at the time of the epic in Champions League in 2003-2004so it was good!
Isn’t it difficult to support a club other than the one in your region?
Not at all. I am Monaco and just Monaco. I have already gone to see matches in Auxerre, in Dijon, but I have no passion for these clubs. Besides, I’m the only footballer in my family so I don’t have any problems! I still knew someone who supported AS Monaco in my region, but otherwise I’m the only one to be a supporter of the Club and that suits me very well.
I loved Shabani Nonda, even though I was a little young to really follow him. He was an elegant player and a fearsome finisher. Park Chu-Young too, I loved it. He was humble, hardworking, and he really loved the jersey.
About his favorite players
What are your most memorable memories with AS Monaco?
At the time, I didn’t have internet at home and I really wanted to know the results of AS Monaco. So I watch on teletext, because I had no other way of keeping up to date. From time to time, my grandmother, who had Canal+, would record the Sunday evening match for me on tape so that I could watch it later. What a memory, even if in the end, it’s not that far away!
Who are your favorite players from yesterday and today?
I loved Shabani Nonda, although I was a bit young to really follow it. He was an elegant player and a fearsome finisher. Park Chu-Young too, I loved it. He was humble, hardworking, and he really loved the jersey.
More recently, Kamil Glik because I am also a defender. For the record, in my team, several of my teammates call me Kamil! They say I have a bit of the same temperament as him (laughs).
Have you ever traveled?
OUI bien sur ! As soon as I have the opportunity, I don’t hesitate and I go for it! I have already had the opportunity to go to Saint-Étienne, Lyon, Dijon, Auxerre, Montpellier and even Nice. In total, I made a good fifteen trips.
You must have an anecdote…
Yes. 4-5 years ago, I think I bought a parking ticket on the Saint-Étienne site, except that I made a mistake, and I took a place among the ultras from Saint-Etienne… Of course, I landed in front of the stadium with the Monaco jersey, but the CRS told me that I was going to have problems (laughs). So I decide with my uncle to go back to my car to change, except that in the meantime, I lose my ticket!
I think the match is going to be very tight, recovery requires. Both teams will want to ensure. I see a 3-2 win for Monaco. Even though I am currently in Ljubljana, I will still watch the game!
About the game against Auxerre
Annoyed, I tore my uncle’s… Before finding mine under my car! Finally we manage to enter in the 70th minute by explaining our situation at the stadiums. Barely installed, Saint-Étienne scores the 2-0 goal, and a smoke bomb is lit right next to us. It was the last straw and we left. It was a lunar day.
Have you ever been to Stade Louis-II?
Yes, for the first time in my life against Marseilles in the month of November. I am currently doing a bike tour of Europe, and my route takes me through Italy. So I looked at the calendar and the match against OM fell perfectly. I wrote to the Club because I realize my adventure without money, and I was kindly invited.
What happiness, in addition it was a gala meeting! I also take this opportunity to thank Karine, whom I met near the stadium on Saturday. She welcomed me on Saturday evening and Sunday evening and therefore allowed me to attend the match.
Tell us about your bike tour of Europe…
I left alone on November 1st. I was thinking of traveling alone, and one morning I finally decided to leave with no money. I sleep either in a tent or with the locals. It’s a great experience. I have no destination, I go where I want to go. It remains one of my best experiences. Besides, I also wanted to attribute the Academy and La Diagonale, which offered me meals when I was passing through the Principality.
Finally, what is your prognosis against Auxerre?
I think the match is going to be very tight, recovery requires. Both teams will want to ensure. I see a 3-2 win for Monaco. Even though I am currently in Ljubljana, I will still watch the game!
