Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Ap) has not given up on the idea that Norway will get control of the Taliban. But she says that it is demanding to have a dialogue with key managers.
Even after the not particularly successful meeting with the Taliban in Oslo early in 2022, Norway’s foreign minister has maintained the belief that Norway will reach out with its message to the Islamist regime in Afghanistan.
– Norwegian diplomats have made several visits to Afghanistan in the past year and also have other contacts in various parts of the Taliban. At the same time, there are demanding conversations, and it is difficult to enter into dialogue with the supposedly most central decision-makers, says Anniken Huitfeldt (Ap) to NTB.
Her thoughts on Norway’s important role in this remote arena are shared by the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Secretary General Jan Egeland, whom Document recently mentioned. See case below.
Egeland has asked Norwegian and international politicians to travel to Afghanistan to speak with senior Taliban leaders with the aim of making decisions about refusing women to work in aid organisations.
