Basel is facing the temperature record
7 degrees in Bern, 10 degrees in Geneva. Even if the temperatures say something different: We are approaching the turn of the year. But cooling is not in sight – quite the opposite.

For the turn of the year, the meteorologists from Meteonews expect temperatures to continue to rise. The maximum temperatures are likely to be in the range of around 12 to 17 degrees. Locally, there should be the warmest New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day since measurements began, as this table shows:
The heat record from 1961 could have fallen in Basel. But before you take your swimming trunks and wrap fish out of the closet: The temperature of the Rhine is around 8 degrees.
It’s cooler in the south, by the way. Extensive high-fog clouds and temperatures of around 9 to 10 degrees are to be expected at the turn of the year.
And the snow…?
Well, it still looks difficult. Precipitation is expected on Thursday and Friday. But the temperatures are still so high that the snow will only fall from 1600 – 1800 meters above sea level.
In the first days of the new year changeable weather and slightly falling temperatures are on the horizon. However, it is not expected to get really cool in the first week of the New Year, so there is no sign of snow down to low altitudes. (ml)
