Thousands of requests from Germany are pouring into Lithuania: are you ready to accept refugees?
Voišnis, Deputy Director of Migration at the Parliamentary Department, said that nobody has much work at the moment, many countries want to return migrants who fled Lithuania to us.
“In recent days, we have been receiving a lot of inquiries from other countries, mainly from Germany, France, and Poland, regarding the repatriation of asylum seekers who were in Lithuania and have now appeared in other countries
From the beginning of the year until today, approximately 4 thousand heart attacks. such inquiries. As you said, in the last few days we receive 30-40 inquiries from different countries every day,” she said.
According to L. Voišnis, one migrant can receive 3-4 inquiries if he traveled and was registered in larger countries.
“These persons could have come to Germany, then Sweden, France – how come so many inquiries, she explained. “That’s why the number is so huge.”
Germany can keep it to itself
The Dublin Regulation states that migrants are the responsibility of the country where they applied for asylum.
“There is quite a bit of correspondence with other states,” said L. Voišnis. – Some asylum seekers who escaped from Lithuania and went to other countries, they have family members and communities there. Again, each member state examines where it is best to stay.”
The expert also tells about an interesting circumstance: if the majority of the migrant’s family members already live in Germany, it is very likely that this country will make a decision not to separate the migrant from them and will not send him to Lithuania.
“There is now a huge amount of work and correspondence with other states, we will see what the consequences will be,” she said and added, “Correspondence regarding the conditions, determining the reasons and making a decision, where is it better to accept to stay, or to return to Lithuania, or to stay in Germany, where he lives many members of his family.”
If it was decided to return the migrant because of this, he would be sent back to Lithuania by plane. Border guards would meet him at Vilnius airport.
“It is possible that all his trials are over. Then the procedure for sending him back to his country of origin must be started. If such a person has not completed the asylum procedures, such a person must be provided with a legal representative, a lawyer, and then it is decided whether he wants to return – what kind of process awaits, said the representative of the Migration Department further. – Such a person has the right to submit a repeated application for asylum.”
One should not expect a different result in the case of re-asylum unless the asylum seeker finds new evidence that he is not safe in his homeland. Most likely, the returned migrant’s freedom would be restricted, because he already fled Lithuania once.
despite inquiries, L. Voišnis guesses that only some of the migrants will be returned to Lithuania free of charge.
“When examining asylum applications, people said: My cousin or my spouse’s children live in Germany. This is already a sign that the Germans are seriously considering such cases and will think about whether it is worth returning them to us. There are a lot of them. 30-40 percent did mention that they have families in the West.
It is possible that they will simply disappear and flee to other countries. The procedure is just about to start and we will receive a message from Germany that I can’t, they can’t find the migrant, so the transfer is postponed. It is difficult to say what percentage of information will return exactly, but taking into account all the procedures and evaluation, it can be said that more than 50%. will definitely not be returned. Bus maybe 20-30 percent. returned, but here are just my calculations,” she thought.
Not afraid of return
your contact with Delfi, Ali, who fled to Germany, said that he does not see Dublin return as a real threat.
“First, Germany will apply to the Lithuanian institution, until the answer comes, about 2 months will pass. Then Germany will decide whether to send you back, but you can always appeal the decision back. It will take another six months. In addition, even if the decision is not favorable to you, the church can provide you with shelter, while it cannot protect you in the process,” said the foreigner, as far as he knows.
Success can also be expected during the court process, migrants can use as arguments the reports of the Seimas inspectors and international organizations, in which the conditions in Lithuania are evaluated negatively.
“Some are being deported,” Ali mentioned, and when asked if he himself was not afraid of such a fate, he answered. – Everything depends on the people, you have to find a clever way to stay, but that’s a lot. I myself am not really afraid, I will not be deported. I have friends, I’ve hired a lawyer, the church will protect me, I’ve already talked to her.”
By the way, he mentioned that migrants are not detained in Germany, so if they receive a negative answer, they have an opportunity to hide.
