Hanover. Three in one go: Currently, new medical combination tests are increasingly being discussed. They are supposed to diagnose corona, flu and RSV (a respiratory disease that is currently rampant, especially among children). In Hanover, too, there is now such an offer.

After Konstantin Boeck, in his own words, “tested such a triple test in practice for ten days and had good experiences,” the operator of the rapid test center in Hanover now offers it in two of its test centers in Karmarschstraße (middle) and in Döhren.
Useful to protect others
As a doctor, Boeck considers this test option to be useful. It’s not just about business for him, he asserts. “Especially now for the holidays, when many people want to visit – you can do something to protect others,” he says. Boeck says he has found “that many people have a negative corona test, but still have symptoms”. And it’s good to know whether it’s a fairly harmless cold or maybe a real flu or RSV. If you take a corresponding combined test with him, you have to pay 8 euros for it.

Waiting: pharmacies in Hanover
In Hanover’s pharmacies, such a combination test is not currently offered, according to a small, non-representative survey. Magdalene Linz, for example, who runs the Leibniz pharmacy on Georgstrasse and was president of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Pharmacists for many years, wants to “first take a look and see if it’s something for us”. In addition, it is unclear whether there is sufficient demand on the customer side.
In principle, however, Linz finds “such a triple test useful”. Because the medical practices and laboratories are currently busy. It could bring relief if patients could clarify in advance whether their symptoms are caused by corona, RSV or classic flu. In order to provide such proof, however, it must also be a “really good test”, emphasizes Linz. You will look at relevant studies. If she offers such tests, they would not only cost 3 to 3.50 euros like Covid tests, but probably between 5 and 7 euros, the pharmacist predicts.
Pharmacists still want to check how good the combination tests are
According to his own information, Bernd Langlotz, pharmacist at the Marie pharmacy in Südstadt, has received several inquiries from customers about the combined tests and is currently “looking for suitable suppliers”. In addition, they will also evaluate existing studies.

Silke Walter, owner of the Sonnen Apotheke on Lister Meile, says she has not yet dealt with the combined tests. “We still have to check how reliable they are. If I offer something like that, I want to stand behind it, then it has to be a reasonable test, I value it.” She knows of some colleagues in Germany who already offer these tests.

The Lower Saxony Chamber of Pharmacists cannot say how widespread such offers already are in the state. However, she points out that pharmacies may sell the combined tests, but not carry them out themselves.
