Since 2020, when Prague 10 approved the rules for cooperation with private investors of mainly development projects, the district has managed to obtain over 200 million for the construction and repair of schools and kindergartens. According to the mayor of the tenth city district, Martin Valovič, other contracts are being discussed, which should generate tens of millions of crowns for the town hall.
In the methodology of cooperation with investors, it is stipulated that the funds will go to the rehabilitation of the effects that the developer brings to the locality. This is primarily a pressure to increase school capacities.
“From part of the developer’s finances, we have already given roughly 80 million crowns to reconstruct the terrible school,” Valovič. The reconstruction of the unused art nouveau building of the former school in V Olšinách Street near the Strašnická metro station began this spring and will be completed in two years. The cost will be 312.8 million crowns, after completion the building will once again be a primary school with a capacity of 360 pupils.
The funds already obtained from the developers should be used to pay for project work to increase the capacity of ZŠ Hostýnská, based on the study, by up to a limit of 800 places, and Záběhlica ZŠ Břečťanová by a maximum of 600 places. “The ambition is to start construction within the next three years,” said the mayor.
According to him, the city district is negotiating with investors about another five contracts, which would bring another 200 million crowns for increasing school capacities. These could go towards the preparation of the expansion of Vršovice ZŠ Eden and ZŠ U Roháčových barracks.
