“Green Vault” treasure: divers search channel in Berlin | Regional
Berlin/Dresden – Are the last parts of the Saxony treasure hidden under water?
On Christmas Day, 20 police divers search the bottom of the Landwehr Canal in Berlin-Neukölln for evidence!
Since Sunday morning, divers from different federal states have been on duty on the Kiehlufer near Treptower Straße. At the same time, emergency officers secure the immediate area.
“In view of the ongoing investigations, no further information is currently possible,” the police said in the morning. This also applies to the results of the search measures.
Jewels stolen three years ago
The priceless jewels were stolen on November 25, 2019 during a break-in into the treasury of the Green Vault in Dresden’s Residenzschloss. Six men from the Remmo clan are said to have cleared a display case. 21 pieces of jewelry with jewels (113 million euros insured value) had disappeared without a trace.
Then last week the sensation! More than three years after the spectacular robbery, investigators have discovered large parts of the stolen treasure in Berlin. Clan members had returned them.
According to BILD information, the loot is battered – dismantled and looted. Only a few pieces of jewelry seem complete, some pieces are missing entirely. Among other things, damaged epaulettes with the “Saxon White” and Queen Amalie Auguste’s “Large Breast Loop” died in the theft.
The alleged perpetrators
After the spectacular coup of November 25, 2019, six 23 to 28-year-old men are specifically accused of aggravated gang theft, arson and aggravated arson.
The accused are said to have stolen the 21 pieces of jewelery with a total of 4,300 diamonds and brilliants from the treasury museum and also left property damage of over one million euros.
The investigators are convinced that the coup is the work of the well-known Berlin Remmo clan, who are also responsible for crimes such as the theft of gold coins from the Bode Museum in 2017.
The clan is mainly based in Berlin-Neukölln – where the search measures are now taking place.
