Fight against the shortage of caregivers in the province of Luxembourg
A little over three years ago, the Province launched the action “I adopt a student for the duration of a medical internship” in collaboration with actors in the field. The objective was then to promote the arrival of medical students in the offices of general practitioners in the region.
The support service for health professionals in the Province, deployed in Arlon, emphasizes that this system is regularly requested. Building on this success, it will therefore be extended to nursing students. Indeed, the shortage encountered in Luxembourg does not only concern general practitioners. It is also seen in nurses. A phenomenon that has further amplified in recent years, particularly following the health crisis.
The Province of Luxembourg is therefore looking for citizens living near a hospital or rest home, ready to welcome students during their internship. This device would thus facilitate access to the stages on the provincial territory.
Indeed, for students, carrying out their internship in the province of Luxembourg is not chosen easy because the majority of schools, universities and colleges, are located outside the province. Students therefore usually have a guesthouse near their campus. For many, they are not able to afford a second accommodation during their stage. Therefore, many students choose not to carry out their internship in Luxembourg.
The duration of an internship is from one week to three months depending on the course. Citizens can be part of their availabilities, however limited they may be, at the support unit for health professionals. This will constitute a network and create a welcome for these students in order to facilitate contacts and meetings. More info: 063/212 621
