Christmas gifts, from one politician to another – Portugal
Isaltino Morais gave António Costa a bucket and a mop, Rui Tavares offers him a “guided tour of the State’s unoccupied heritage”. Nuno Melo suggests a new “fluffy dwarf bunny” to Ventura and Inês Sousa Real a DVD of Ferdinando, the tour. There is also Memofante and Red Bull. They explain why.
Christmas has arrived. “A season of family recollection and reunion with friends”, in a time of “hope and comfort”, as Prime Minister António Costa stated in a Christmas message four years ago. In fact, as Christmas tradition dictates, the month of December is for group dinners and exchanging gifts between friends, culminating in the Christmas Eve, where you come and drink with your family. Imbued with the spirit of Christmas, of peace and harmony, the SATURDAY challenged political leaders, mayors and deputies to exchange gifts (hypothetical, of course) – and moments of affection between party mates and mockery between opponents. Books and trips to Venezuela and Tibet to make rivals reflect on the evil they (allegedly) do, bottles of wine to toast with fellow party members, the intentions varied.
