Oorldline, one of the world leaders in payment services, recorded an all-time high of more than 13 million electronic transactions in Belgium on Friday December 23, it announced in a press release on Saturday.
Friday 23 December therefore becomes the number 1 day in the history of electronic payments in Belgium with a total of 13,533,301 electronic payments online and in stores. The previous record was broken on July 1, 2022, the first day of the summer sales, with 12,831,037 electronic transactions.
Saturday, New Year’s Eve, also gave rise to a new record: that of the number of electronic payments per minute. Worldline observed a peak of 23,751 transactions per minute around 11:23 a.m.
The year 2022 is also a new record since more than three billion electronic transactions have already been recorded in Belgium, dethroning the 2.964 billion transactions of 2021. “This once again confirms the growing growth of electronic payment in Belgium, whether by card, smartphone or any connected object,” emphasizes Worldine.
