Mayor Zdeněk Hřib distributed fish soup on the Old Town Square
/VIDEO,PHOTO GALLERY/ Acting Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) gave out three thousand portions of Christmas fish soup on Friday, December 23, at the Old Town Square in Prague. Among those interested were Czechs and tourists who came to the center of the metropolis to enjoy the pre-Christmas atmosphere, as well as homeless people. The traditional pouring of Christmas soup by the mayor returned to Prague after a two-year break due to the coronavirus.

“I think this tradition is important. It’s about the fact that no one should be hungry at Christmas time, not even alone,” said Hřib. Previously, this traditional event was held on December 24. However, some people are fasting on Christmas Day, so the city management moved the soup pouring to December 23 so that these people could also enjoy the food.
Along with Hřib, other representatives of the city, such as councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09) or presidents of the Prague clubs Jan Čižinský and ANO Patrik Nacher, are also spilling out.

The traditional fish soup was cooked by a team of chefs from Taiko, which organized the event. In addition to 260 kilograms of carp from southern Bohemia, they processed 130 kilograms of vegetables, mainly carrots, celery and parsley, 40 kilograms of onions, 90 kilograms of plain flour, 65 kilograms of meat and 60 liters of cream. To enhance the taste, they used cognac and caramel, and there were croutons fried in butter. The chefs used a total of 1,500 kilograms of ingredients for the soup.

The program on the Old Town Square continued on Friday with a Christmas performance. On Christmas Day, the Vox Pragae choir, the Praga Sinfonietta orchestra and soloists will perform the Czech Christmas Mass Hey, Master Jakub Jan Ryba.
