In Berlin, noise cameras will be tested at intersections in 2023. In the federal capital one hopes for more peace and quiet for the residents.
Speed cameras are anything but popular with drivers. How big is the fear of new high-tech speed cameras that some behind the blue pillars on the side of the road. No wonder, after all, there are now devices that recognize whether a mobile phone is being used at the wheel. And even cars that are too loud will soon no longer be safe, because so-called noise cameras will be tested at intersections in Berlin in the coming year.
In California, these devices are already in use and they have also been around in France for years. A noise camera with the nickname Medusa is used there, which is also supposed to hunt for loud vehicles in Berlin. That reports t3n. The nickname comes from the numerous microphones that protrude from the device.

As with a classic speed camera, cameras are also installed. With these, the noise camera can assign the noise to the vehicle and recognize the number plate. Based on the vehicle type, Medusa uses a database to compare the permitted volume. This also works with motorcycles, which are often particularly loud.

If you GET caught by the noise camera, you don’t have to worry. In the test period in the first half of 2023, no administrative offense proceedings are to be initiated. In Berlin it is hoped that the more devices will bring peace to the residents.
Noise cameras in test mode: 511 cases of noise pollution
A look at the statistics shows how important the use of noise cameras is. By the end of September there were 511 cases of noise pollution from vehicles in the federal capital, reports the daily mirror. Five times more than in the previous year. The devices are also likely to trigger frequently, especially since dying banned – but increasingly popular – speed camera warning apps initially not allowed to draw attention to the noise cameras.
