Hungary continues to lead the way in protecting persecuted Christians
Tristan Azbej said that they continue to believe that Europe’s Christian culture must be protected and that “it is not necessary to bring trouble here, but to bring help to where the trouble is.”
He stated: this is what the Hungary Helps Program is all about, within the framework of which, in six years, almost one million people managed to make it possible for them to choose to stay in their homeland instead of migrating.
“This year, we came to the aid of African believers who were attacked by terrorists, and we were able to celebrate together with Iraqi Christians that a new school was built instead of their school destroyed by the Islamic State,” the state secretary said, adding that the government’s program of sympathy and support for Hungarians has become a national matter.
“This is how we send a message to those who are innocently persecuted because of their faith in Christ: they can count on Hungary and the Hungarian people. Even in the midst of the current difficult circumstances, we stand by the persecuted Christians,” said Tristan Azbej.
He said that although this year the news was focused on the war in Ukraine, now, at Christmas, it is especially important in Christian Hungary to think about the fact that Christianity has become the most persecuted religion in the world.
There are countries where millions of Christians can only celebrate Christmas in secret or out of fear of bloody terrorist attacks. Although Christians are not yet physically threatened in other nearby Western states, the attack on the Christian religion and culture has already begun. They don’t like Christmas traditions, they rename them, and even “Merry Christmas!” greetings would also be banned – said the state secretary.
