A Czech activist was sentenced to half a year in prison in London: He could only go to court from Prague by bus
Today, a Czech environmental activist received a six-month prison sentence suspended for two years from a London court for blocking a ring road around London in November, which is one of the busiest in the country. The Daily Mail list reports on its website.
Arne Springorum, who took part in a number of similar protests in the Czech Republic, together with other supporters of the Just Stop Oil movement, demanded a halt to new oil and gas projects in Britain as well by launching from the construction of highway markings.
According to investigators, he and other protesting drivers were at risk of losing focus or having something fall on their cars. Police therefore closed a large part of the M25 motorway for more than two hours.
Fifty-year-old Springorum, who has both Czech and German citizenship, today in front of the court building he emphasized that during his protest he tried to avoid unnecessary drivers and passengers in cars. He was said to be wearing nothing that could fall, and had undergone climbing training before the event.
The Daily Mail also notes that Springorum made the many hundred-kilometer journey from Prague to today’s 15-minute court appearance by bus.
