Romanian too, for 18 years in Italy, David lives in a tent a few meters away. “Vasile didn’t hurt anyone -tells- in the morning he got up and went to beg, ate a few pieces of pizza and then bought a bottle and shut himself up in his tent. She was only in Italy, but he has a wife and children in Romania. Vasile was from Transylvania and said he left home after the separation, but he didn’t talk much. This morning I immediately understood that he was ill, I saw him on the ground with a bleeding wound in his leg. He didn’t react and I called for help”. A life on the edge ended because of the cold but also of loneliness. “But I haven’t drunk for 8 years, and I’m not afraid of the cold – continues David – I have blankets and they are enough for me. Now I live like this, but I’ve always worked; first as a bricklayer and then as a laborer in the fields, but since I had hernia surgery I haven’t had the strength anymore and so I’m happy with what I scrape together with small jobs”.
