Rain and rush for Christmas presents, another nightmarish day for traffic in Genoa
Genoa. Some might argue that “It’s not news”. The traffic jams due to the rush for Christmas presents, further favored by the rain these hours, are a “classic” of this time of year. But the fact remains that even today, Wednesday 21 December, in Genoa, the situation was a nightmare for those who had to or wanted to get around by car.
Code practically everywhere, on the routes between the suburbs and the center and on the hubs of the city centre. After the already chaotic morning rush hour, the evening rush hour – on the shortest day of the year – was even worse.
It would be enough to dare a look at the flurry of “Alerts” launched on Telegram by the local police Genoese. From the spiral to the elevated road, from Corvetto to Cavour, and then via Canevari, viale Brigate Partigiane, via Buozzi, Principe, the area of the spiral in San Benigno, the Aurelia to the west, the connecting roads with the districts of Castelletto .
In addition to some inconvenience on the motorway junction: an accident between Genoa Airport and Genoa Pegli around 18.30 created a two-kilometre queue, the resurfacing of the asphalt in Genoa West affected the viability at that point.
It didn’t go much better for those who chose the more “sustainable” public transport. Some lines, in particular, turned out overcrowded, especially those between the west and the center as well as those leading to Albaro and Castelletto. Despite theat a rather high frequency of passages many buses found themselves swallowed up and stuck, like private vehicles, in the traffic.
More efficient, from this point of view, trains and subway which, moreover, remains free between 10 in the morning and 16 in the afternoon. More used than usual, also in this case favored by gratuity, are the vertical systems.
Among the problems that have made the viability in the center complicated the resurfacing that became necessary after an oil leak, two days ago, in Corso Carbonara and corso Dogali. At this juncture, as in others, the local police were present to regulate traffic.
