The city of Zurich will participate financially in the phenomena in Dietikon. On Wednesday, the municipal council approved 2.5 million francs for the science event in 2024, half a million of which as a deficit guarantee.
Parliament approved the money by a vote of 93 to 19. On the other hand, the SVP had died. They found that the city’s financial situation did not allow it to finance events in other communities. As is so often the case, the SVP was unable to assert itself in the left-green parliament.
The canton and the federal government are also expected to take part in the phenomenon. The event aims to impart knowledge and, in particular, to get children and young people excited about scientific topics. The organizers are expecting over a million visitors from all over Switzerland.
The Zurich city council did not want the phenomena
The first phenomenon took place as early as 1984, at that time still in the city of Zurich. The organizers actually wanted to hold the new edition again in Zurich. However, the city council was against it because the concept was “no longer up-to-date”. Essential points of this are still from the 1980s.
The City Council also saw the flow of visitors as a problem because the exhibition WILL run for six months.
