Brilliant victory for AS Monaco in Leeds to conclude the preparation!
Thanks to an attacking festival signed by the Golovin-Embolo-Gelson Martins trio, the Red and Whites concluded their preparation campaign perfectly with a great and wide success at Leeds United (2-4). Report.
A very prolific end of preparation! Yet quickly led to the score, the AS Monaco players turned the tide to easily win against Leeds this Wednesday evening (2-4), at the end of an offensive festival. A great victory which concludes a month of warm-up, before the comeback of the championship.
The context 🗓
The Red and Whites play against the “Peacocks” at Elland Road, their last preparation match before the resumption of Ligue 1 in Auxerre this Wednesday, December 28 (5 p.m.). At the beginning of the month, Philippe Clément’s men left for a ten-day scene in Benidorm in Spain, before playing three oppositions. Between two draws added against Seville and Fiorentina on the same score (1-1), the latter imposed themselves on the lawn from Empoli (1-0).
The composition 👥
To start the meeting against 15th in the Premier League, the Flemish technician slightly rotated his workforce, reinforced by the presence of many young people from the Elite Group, big winners of the LUFC reserve earlier in the day (9-1). AS Monaco starts in 4-2-3-1, with the Matazo-Camara doublet in the middle and Eliesse Ben Seghir as playmaker, in support of Breel Embolo. Guillermo Maripán wears the captain’s armband.

The scenario 🎞
After an unsuccessful attempt by young Joe Gelhardt (8th), Leeds quickly opened the scoring from a corner, thanks to a deflection of the head at the near post by Robin Koch (1-0, 12th). The Monegasques react and on their first situation, Ruben Aguilar finds Alexander Golovin in deviation, which is delivered perfectly for Breel’s embolism which ends in force (1-1, 25th). Elland Road shudders in stride, when Guillermo Maripán saves a shot in extremis on his line (26th).
The second act starts very strong with a second but signed Riviera Gelson Martinson the lookout at the far post on a good crossIsmail Jakobs (1-2, 47th). Aleksandr Golovin The Red and Whites are not satisfied, and the Tsar shifts this time Gelson Martins who offers a caviar to Breel Embolo for the double (1-4, 55th).
47′ School action from our Rouge & Blanc who double the lead thanks to Gelson Martins, perfectly served by @IsmailJakobs !

The Peacocks try to react by Joe Gelhardt (58th) then on a free kick from Brenden Aaronson just above the crossbar (75th). But even the rotations performed by Philippe Clement does not destabilize AS Monaco. Only Wilfried Gnon really manages to be dangerous twice (82nd and 91st), just before finally getting a penalty that Joe Gelhardt transforms to reduce the gap (2-4, 93rd).
The winning trio 🤟
Highly visible in front of the 20,978 spectators on Elland Road, the Golovin-Embolo-Gelson Martins attack hit (very) hard! On the first but Monegasque, the Russian wing handed over for the Swiss striker who succeeded in force (1-1, 25th). He then launches Ismail Jakobs who crosses hard for the goal from close to the Portuguese (1-2, 47th). We find the Tsar with the stick on the corner obtained which allows the German side to make the break (1-3, 52nd). Then on the fourth but of the Red and Whites, when he shifts Gelson Martins who offers a double to Breel’s “Magic” Embolo (1-4, 55th)! A masterclass and sublime goalscoring actions as a bonus. Hat 🎩
