The first Polish hydrogen locomotive undergoes tests. He’ll start at work
PESA adds a hydrogen locomotive test. At the breeding track there is a special presentation with refueling and test drives. The first such vehicle in the history of Poland is to enter service as early as 2023.
The first Polish hydrogen locomotive
In December 2022, Pesa issued the last stage of approval tests hydrogen SM42-6Dn shunting locomotive. At the test track in Żmigród, a special stand for refueling the additive from a mobile station, thanks to which all performance tests could be performed.
– All projects were developed as planned. Now it’s time to prepare documentation for certification, then the homologation procedure. We assume that in order to increase the efficiency of the locomotive at the premises of Petrochemia in Płock – summed up Dr. Lech Lipiński, PESA Bydgoszcz hydrogen vehicle contract manager.
Polish representatives were called upon to take into account the Pesa tests and the products were used in favor of the presentation of the SM42-6Dn locomotive. There was a demonstration of refueling the mobile station’s foot and a test drive. Polish technology is extremely popular in Poland and abroad.
On the power wave
The hydrogen shunting locomotive is PESA’s answer to the additional need for zero-emission means of sea transport. The completed traction project is to be offered by the company in 4 years.
– The obligation to provide cargo and intermodal services is confirmed, thanks to which the design of our hydrogen shunting locomotive is enjoyed. In addition to the modernization of the SM42-6Dn, we will offer customers on the Polish market new hydrogen locomotives. Work on these projects as part of the zero-emission platform of locomotives and vehicle vehicles is already underway – announced Krzysztof Zdziarski, President of the Management Board of Pesa.
The seminar part was attended by representatives of CUPT, PFR, TUV Sud and PKN Orlen. A Polish energy concern associated with PESA’s strategic activityunder which Orlen provides hydrogen fuel and provides refueling for vehicles manufactured by PESA – hydrogen-powered vehicles.
– We are ready to commercialize the hydrogen shunting locomotive project. We wanted our customers just a vehicle, not only the hydrogen refueling process, but also gave them a chance to come up with early instruments and possible support for investments in hydrogen rolling stock and its refueling – added Maciej Grześkowiak, Strategic Projects and Communications Director at Pesa.
“Zielona Pesa” is one of the other elements of cooperation by the company of the Pesa2026+ strategy. Installation of not only zero-emission devices, battery and hydrogen rail vehicles, but also CO2 emissions both in production and throughout the company’s operations.
Water – the future of transport?
Combustion does not emit a carbon source, so it does not contribute to global warming. Hydrogen can be used to generate heat in fuel cell systems or as a simple device in a combustion process. It can also be stored to supplement renewables. It is an excellent fuel because it is light and efficient.
Hydrogen fuel cells produce energy by combining energy and energy atoms. Hydrogen produces with oxygen in electrochemical cells into the system, producing energy energy, water and a quantity of heat. Many different fuel cells are available for a range of applications.
Representatives of PESA that a hydrogen railway in Poland is a matter of time, although we do not know the date of launching the first line of this type yet.
– Today, no one wonders why hydrogen cars will go to Polish tracks, because it is an inevitable process. In conversations with materials, the most common question we ask is how to solve the problem of refueling with hydrogen. That is why it is so important to sign under the contract. For a clear signal to the market that the applications by PESA are to ensure the supply of water – Krzysztof Zdziarski, President of PESA, will be established.
The world’s first hydrogen train, the Coradia iLint, began operating on planes in Bremervörde, Lower Saxony. It only emits steam and condensed water. Alstom, the company behind original, original that creates the best green rail network in the world.
