SNCF Nevers – Dijon line, 7 months of work planned from July 2023
The SNCF line between Nevers and Dijon requires work to keep it operational. It is considered problematic by the SNCF due to difficult crossings and speed incompatibility. The cut will take place from July 2023 to February 2024.
On Tuesday December 20, 2022, a press conference was held in Montchanin (Saône-et-Loire) to announce the work on the Nevers-Dijon railway line. From July 10, 2023 to February 16, 2024, the Nevers / Chagny section will be disrupted, in phases:
- Closure of the Nevers / Le Banlay section from 10/07/23 to 02/09/23 inclusive
- Closure of the Le Banlay / Montchanin section from 10/07/23 to 22/12/23 inclusive
- Closure of the Montchanin / Chagny section from 07/10/23 to 02/16/24 inclusive
UN replacement plan by coach is studied by the carriers and the territory to propose a similar offer. Further details will be provided in the second quarter of 2023.
Of the road diversions will also be expected depending on the progress of the work at the crossings with the railway.
Jérôme Grand (regional director SNCF Réseau Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) was able to present the roadmap for future work to elected officials. At his side stood Franck Robine (prefect of the region), as well as Louis Margueritte (deputy of the 5th constituency of Saône-et-Loire), Michel Neugnot (1uh vice-president of the region) and Jean-Yves Vernochet (mayor of Montchanin).
Tracks that were between 30 and 50 years old
The aging of the line made this work essential according to SNCF Réseau, and judged between Montchanin and Chagny whose tracks were 50 years old. Without them, strong slowdowns of the trains up to 30 or 40 km / h were to be considered, lengthening the journey between Nevers and Dijon up to 20 minutes.
The Étang-sur-Arroux rail bridge was also called into question, which could cause traffic to stop for safety reasons. It will be completely replaced by a new bridge. 8 other works of art will be modernized along the route.
Decize and Montchanin stations will be brought up to standard in terms of safety signage and accessibility.
The biggest operation in BFC since the high-speed lines
The figures for this work speak for themselves. During these 7 months, 121 km of tracks will be renewed for a budget of €137 million including 62 million co-financed by the State and the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region and 75 million by the SNCF. 550 people per day will be mobilized on the site. This represents, for the organizers of the meeting, a godsend in terms of jobs and funds deposited in the hotel and catering industry.
