Hannover 96 retrains strikers: Thaddäus-Monju Momuluh should be on the rails | Sports
A year ago, 96 sports director Marcus Mann (38) brought two winter reinforcements from the 1st league with Cedric Teuchert (25 / Union Berlin) and Mark Diemers (29 / Feyenoord Rotterdam). But the Reds were there at Christmas as the fourth from last on the abyss to the 3rd division. Now they’re ten places up in fifth place – and the head of sport isn’t under any pressure.
There will hardly be any real new ones, on the contrary. The 30-man squad should be reduced if possible. It will probably stay with the “wrong newcomers”.
With the returnee Sebastian Ernst (27/after a torn Achilles tendon) and the promotions of Tom Moustier and Thaddäus-Monju Momuluh (both 20) from the U23s, coach Stefan Leitl (45) has practically three newcomers when training starts on January 2nd.
The job description is clear for playmaker Ernst and midfield clearer Moustier. Looks very different with right winger “Taddel” Momuluh. That’s why Mann and Leitl have developed a plan.
Taddel should be on the rails!
The boy rocked the 4th division as a U23 winger: seven goals and nine assists in 19 games. As a reward, Momuluh got a professional contract until 2025. The hope: He also swirls in the 2nd division. But there is a small space problem.
In both of the preferred Leitl systems – three-man chain, five-man midfield, two points and four-man chain, midfield diamond, two points – wing strikers are not provided. That’s why Momuluh should be retrained in preparation.
Mann: “We want to use his incredible dynamism, we think he can play the role of a rail player with the pros.” For on the right side and in the system with a back three. That’s where Sei Muroya (28) has his regular job. The Japanese is doing well too, playing his best 96 season (three goals, one assist).
But Muroya is a trained defender and his contract is up. The hope is that Momuluh will be the man of the future and, as a (former) striker, will deliver even more goals and, above all, assists. Mann: “We trust him, he has an exceptional pace and has also proven his goal threat this season.”
But for the defense work required in the new position, the boy still needs tuition. The Reds are convinced that Taddel can do it quickly. Mann: “He also thinks defensively, he showed that in the games with the U23s.
Because that’s exactly what failed the rail considerations of Lawrence Ennali (loaned to Essen) and Sebastian Stolze (sees himself as a striker). Now the next attempt with Momuluh.
