A tram derailed in the center of Prague, traffic was significantly restricted for over an hour
Tram line 24 derailed in Lazarská Street in the center of Prague and temporarily stopped traffic on the road. The Prague Transport Company (DPP) temporarily diverted ten additional tram lines to nearby streets. Tram service was interrupted in the area for about half an hour, after more than an hour it was possible to restore service completely.
The DPP cites a traffic accident as the cause of the derailment. It is possible that ice on the tracks could be to blame, but this has not been confirmed.
“Tram operation interrupted in all directions, alternative transport by parallel metro lines. From 3:02 p.m. traffic resumed on Karlovo náměstí – Václavské náměstí – Jindřišská,” said the DPP on its website. However, the situation has already been rectified.

Social networks have already started to fill with images of the tram in question, which ended up almost diagonally across both tracks in both directions. “It’s just sliding, isn’t it,” said one Twitter user.
