23 people were sentenced for incidents at PAOK-Olympiakos in 2016
23 of the 29 defendants were found guilty for participating in incidents in the PAOK-Olympiakos Cup match that took place in March 2016 and was interrupted.
The Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki judged 23 of the 26 defendants for incidents in the Cup match between PAOK and Olympiakos in March 2016 and imposed prison sentences of 5 to 16 months, recognizing most mitigating factors.
Six defendants were acquitted because they were not found guilty, while the rest were convicted of attempted grievous bodily harm, breach of the peace with violence, breaches of the Sports Act and breach of the Fireworks Act, as the case may be.
In their apologies, most denied the charges while admitting to participating in the incidents but claiming they had no intention of harming anyone.
All of the above were identified after a months-long investigation by police officers of the Sub-Directorate for Combating Sports Violence of the Thessaloniki Security. The material from the closed security circuit of the Toumba stadium was used, while some of the alleged protagonists of the incidents were also identified by the police.
