the Department reaffirms its support for the Toulouse-Castres motorway
The Department of Tarn has reaffirmed its support for the construction of the Toulouse-Castres motorway. A public environmental inquiry is underway.
Opponents of the Toulouse-Castres motorway remain mobilized, as evidenced by Extinction Rebellion’s recent action. So are his supporters. During the standing committee on December 16, the Department of Tarn has thus reaffirmed its support for the realization of this project “vital to meet the needs of the territory”.
As a reminder, the A69 motorway must link the city of Toulouse to the Castres-Mazamet conurbation over a distance of 62 kilometres. Its main objective: “to open up the south of the Tarn, the Castres-Mazamet Agglomeration, the Community of Sor and Agout communes, and more broadly the Thoré Valley and the Monts de Lacaune and Sidobre”.
The Toulouse-Castres motorway “a major project” for the Tarn
“The A69 is a major project for our department, and particularly for opening up the southern Tarn. I will remain attentive to the fundamental balance between economic development and the preservation of the living environment of the Tarnais and our landscapes”, underlines Christophe Ramond, the president of the Department, in a press release.
A environmental public inquiry on the construction of the A69 motorway between Toulouse and Castres is also in progress. Available since November 28, it will be until January 11. All the inhabitants of the municipalities concerned by the creation of this road axis can give their opinion online on the digital registers website or by mail.
Launch of work on the Toulouse-Castres motorway in 2023
This environmental public inquiry marks the last stage before the start of work on the Toulouse-Castres motorway. the start of construction is actually planned for next year. The A69 motorway should be put into service in 2025.
But first, the prefects of Tarn, Haute-Garonne and the Occitanie region must decide whether or not to give the green light for the start of the work. A “report” drawn up by seven investigating commissioners allowing them to make their choice. The latter will actually record the remarks of the inhabitants and then draw up a report, bring up certain opinions and transmit this “report” to the services of the State concerned.
