Czechia on the brink of an epidemic: RS viruses and flu are increasing, the ministry warns of the rise of covid
“It can be assumed, that even in the next week, the number of patients with respiratory diseases, including flu, will increase. If possible, people should avoid large groups and, in particular, for the benefit of health, basic hygiene rules,” said Matyáš Fošum, director of the Department of Protection of the Public Ministry.
It is recommended for people with symptoms stay at home and limit contact with risk groups such as the elderly or the chronically ill. “For the confidence of immunity, it is advisable to consume a sufficient amount of fruits and vegetables as natural sources of vitamins,” he added.
In Prague, according to the ministry, it is not yet an epidemic, but an increased incidence of acute respiratory infections, in the South Bohemian Region the situation is borderline. “The data indicate that the epidemic is so far localized in only two districts in this region,” stated in the press ministry. According to SZÚ data the SARS-CoV-2 virus, influenza and RS virus are currently circulating.
According to SZÚ spokesperson Štěpánka Čechová, the wave of the RS virus, which mainly affects young children and significantly affected the number of patients in children’s wards, will culminate in the coming weeks, and experts expect a decline. “So far, the influenza epidemic is mainly based on the circulation of type A/H3, and type A/H1 is gradually being added. Type B influenza is recorded only sporadically,” she stated.
According to her, an increase in the number of infections of the new type of coronavirus, which is already showing itself in other European countries, is also expected. “In the Czech Republic, the omicron BF.7 variant predominates, and the number of BQ.1 detection variants is growing slightly. However, clinical practice does not report any unusual course of the disease in this variant,” she added.
