Christmas on the balcony, a habit in Toulouse for ten years
This Christmas 2022 promises to be mild in terms of temperatures in Toulouse and its region. Up to 16°C at the best of the day are expected on December 24 and 25, according to Météo France, before dropping a few degrees next week. A thaw that is no longer so exceptional.
Over the past ten years, temperatures have been for the period between 3 and 4°C above seasonal norms in Toulouse and its surroundings, according to Météo France. “We can see a background warming, the last Christmases have been quite mild, we have had some where the temperatures were above 15 degrees”, explains Simon Rebouissoux, forecaster at Météo France. On December 24, 2019, a daily record was even broken in Toulouse, with 19.2°C readings at the best of the day
Newly, only the end of 2020, characterized by the Covid, was cold and within the normal range for the season, with a maximum of 5°C on December 25 in Toulouse. Otherwise, it was in 2010 that it last froze over Christmas. “As we have this background warming, conversely the cold waves become less and less realistic and intense, adds Simon Rebouissoux. So Christmases like we had in 2001, with almost -10°C, will become exceptional.”
