After a month of the World Cup, the boss of the bar “La Rotonde” in Toulouse takes stock
Many called for a boycott of the World Cup in Qatarhe couldn’t Steven Clément, manager of the The Rotunda Barboulevard de Strasbourg in Toulouse, makes the Review after a month of competition.
A pretty good score
“The start was mixed” recognizes the manager of the bar. “People went to see the matches of the France team, of Brazil, but the other matches were very calm. There was the cold which was among us, especially at the start of the World Cup. There, the temperatures are more lenient with us for the end of the competition. That helped.”
And then there was also the boycott, but Steven Clément could not afford not to broadcast the matches: “The financial stakes are too high. Match days, that represents in terms of turnover, the equivalent of half a week of beautiful summer days.“ A significant advantage for this small bar, most of which is outside on the terrace.
The return of freedoms after the covid
For this World Cup, the manager even invested in a giant screen, one of the only ones downtown. “Attendance went crescendo, at the beginning, we had 200 to 300 people then there on the last matches we were at nearly 800 people. We can call ourselves a fan zone.“
Above all, according to him, this World Cup marks the return to an entirely normal life: “Before, it’s true that there were a lot of regulations. We weren’t allowed to do much. There, we feel that we have passed a course, that we have more freedom.“
