They returned from abroad and set up a successful business in the Republic of Moldova: The story of a family from the Călărași district
The passion for traditional wooden crafts and the longing for her loved ones led her to return to the Republic of Moldova, after 14 years spent abroad. It is the story of Natalia Nicoriuc, the woman who tried her luck in several professions but, (re)discovering that her husband Sergiu is a skilled woodcarver, decided to open a business in Moldova – a carpentry workshop.
“In 2019, I lived in England, and my husband in Moldova. At that time I was investing in a rail business, but the financial situation was very difficult and I did not have the courage to return home. One day though, hubby had to go to a sister’s birthday party of mine and as I didn’t have any money I asked him to do a little woodwork as I knew he was good at it . . When I saw that special work – I felt that the potential was given a whistle to be capitalized, which led me to return home”. remember Natalia.
Once back in Moldova, Natalia didn’t think twice and opened her own business.
“When I returned to Moldova, I had money collected from working abroad and I procured raw material for Sergiu to work on a massive article. Moreover, I think I wanted to prove that you can live well in Moldova, especially when you do something out of passion. And the husband managed to do a superb job, which gave us an impetus to continue working in this field”.
The company of the Nicoriucs specializes in the manufacture of furniture, decorative objects and accessories from oak and ash wood. Over time, he came to have orders not only in Moldova, but also to export works to Romania, Ireland, Italy, Germany and France.
To cope with the volume of requests, the couple hired several workers.
Natalia and Sergiu have big aspirations. For now, they managed to buy a spacious workshop of over 150 square meters in Ungheni district, which they are restoring to increase their production capacity.
