coordinated action by Extinction Rebellion activists
On Saturday, December 17, environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion carried out several coordinated actions in the Lyon area. Twenty of them were arrested.
Controversial environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion carried out coordinated actions on several buildings in the Lyon conurbation. The regional management of the environment, planning and housing, in Lyon, and the premises of the Arkema factory in Pierre-Bénite were thus targeted. The Rhône prefecture ensures that the police intervened quickly. No significant degradation was observed on the sites.
Arkema and harmful additives
The Arkema company is known south of Lyon for the rejection of PFAS additives. A chemical substance widely used in packaging. These PFAS additives are harmful to health and the environment. Since last September, the State and the Rhône prefecture have asked the operator to limit these discharges in stages. In March 2023 it must reduce by 65%, 73% in December 2023 and 84% in September 2024. Deadlines which do not seem to suit the militants of Extinction Rebellion.
